Longhorn Cavern State Park

This park has a rich Civilian Conservation Corp history which always fascinates me since I was married in a CCC built building. It made me miss my husband a little but I haven’t had reception all day. If I remember, I should call him tomorrow. In addition to all the bats I saw yesterday at Old Tunnel SP, I got up close to a couple today! They were just hanging out (literally) in the cave. They looked like little fuzzy chicken nuggets. So stinking cute! I learned the difference between a flow cave and a drip cave thanks to my awesome tour guide. There are some short trails here which I took advantage of after the cave tour since most of today’s miles were spent in the car. I’m mostly out of hill country parks and am thinking of making my way to the panhandle. We’ll see!

Lake Brownwood State Park

Not much in the way of trails but I can see the appeal in this park for boating and fishing. I was the only tent in the water only loop and slept right on the bank of the lake. I ate my sunset dinner while watching birds trying to catch theirs in the lake. There’s an owl close by. It’s been a while since I’ve heard one from my tent at night. Love this life of mine!
