Palo Duro Canyon State Park

I was able to get more miles in today since I only went to one park. Palo Duro is the main attraction of this trip so I headed here a day early and will probably spend the whole day tomorrow here. Unless of course I run out of trails. I’m no good at sitting around, especially by myself and considering that I already did that last night at Copper Breaks. After a three plus hour drive here, I looped together the Paseo del Rio, Lighthouse, Little Fox Canyon, and Givens, Spicer, Lowry trails for an awesome first day. It was easy hiking on mostly flat terrain and I ran the last two miles. I only got lost once and I wasn’t the only one so I didn’t feel too bad about it. The weather is perfect. It’s a pretty exposed trail with junipers giving the occasional shade but not much so the weather helps tremendously with that. Since it was probably low 70s today it wasn’t hot at all. The canyon is beautiful and the reds and oranges have a fantastically warm glow to them at sunset. Some neat hoodoos too! If I wake up early enough I’d like to do a sunrise hike of the CCC Trail from rim to floor. It’s just too bad my morning body doesn’t always agree with my morning brain. We’ll see.
