We spent part of the evening looking at Thanksgiving food options for backpacking. There are some really great options out there for anyone with a dehydrator. I don’t have one yet so I started to make a list of ideas for the grocery store with lightweightish options in mind. Nothing elaborate or gourmet. This is what I came up with so far.
1. Dried cranberries
2. Stuffing mix
3. Instant mashed sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows
4. Instant mashed potatoes
5. Powdered gravy
6. Chicken in a pouch
Anyone else have ideas? Does pumpkin pie instant pudding exist? If not, it should. Oh and we’ll have stoves but no open fire so that limits us as well.
Since it’s a holiday, we will probably spring for some freeze dried meals, too. We don’t do them often because the cost adds up when you multiply the price for three people. Over packing food is acceptable if it’s Thanksgiving right? :)
