I finally got my Swiss Army Rambler in the mail. I love when I order something online and then forget about it. It’s like a surprise birthday present from me to me! Though, in this case, it was more like a Vietnamese New Year’s present since it got here on Friday.
I like having a knife when I’m camping. Just for general all-purpose things you’d need something sharp for kinda stuff — cutting rope, opening packages, sharpening marshmallow sticks! — nothing fancy. This 2.25″ knife weighs in at 1 oz (1.03 oz on my scale but who’s counting?) with a small blade, flat screwdriver, magnetic Phillips screwdriver, nail file, scissors, bottle opener, wire stripper, tweezers, toothpick, and tiny key ring. With the exception of the wire stripper, it has everything I was looking for. I like when things work out like that. It seems unlikely that I’ll be stripping wires on the AT but you never know. It’s part of the bottle opener so it’s not a big deal. It was tricky finding something that had no more and no less than what I was looking for so that’s why I’m excited about something silly like a pocket knife. Also, this knife screams Kerry:
Do you carry a knife on the trail? What kind? What do you use it for?
